A few months ago we aere approached by a restaurant in Norwalk CT called Killer B to make a concrete bar top and tables. The budget was tight and so casting was out of the question. We decided to coat ply wood with Elite Crete Thin finish and Micro finish to give the effect of concrete. Here is the method we used and some pictures of the various stages.
First of all the bar was fabricated using two a double layer of 3/4″ plywood glued and screwed together. The edges were routed and the screws were embedded.
We then filled all of the gaps and screw holes and coated the bar with clear epoxy and broadcast silica sand into the wet surface.
The dry sand surface was then coated with Elite Crete Thinfinish in a charcoal grey color.
Once dry we applied a coat of Elite Crete Microfinish to the dry surface using a steel trowel. This was sanded and the followed by another coat.
We then sanded and coated the surface with clear epoxy followed by an Aliphatic Urethane.
