ARDEX SD-M Concrete Floor Finish
Elite Concrete Systems is now using a new product called ARDEX SD-M for the renovation of existing concrete floors. Ardex SD-M is a decorative coating that can be applied to a bare concrete floor to improve its appearance. It is a particularly good choice for a floor that is in bad shape and cannot be polished.
ARDEX SD-M is used for fast track finishing or resurfacing of interior concrete floors. It can create a hard, flat, smooth surface for warehouses, utility rooms, light manufacturing, retail, and residential applications.
The substrate must be solid, clean, and free of any oil, wax, grease, asphalt, latex, or gypsum compounds; curing and sealing compounds; and any contaminants that could break bonds. The floor can be ground down, if necessary, to prepare it for the coating. Then we apply two or three thin coats of ARDEX SD-M using a steel trowel. Finally, we coat the floor with a water-based epoxy to create the look of a polished concrete floor.
Ardex SD-M is available in white and gray, which can be blended together. Any color additive that is traditionally used with a cement product can be used and the floor can be sealed with any traditional interior sealer. Acid and color staining is also possible.
The coating is easy to mix and apply. It only needs to be mixed with water. No additives are necessary. It can be applied to a dry floor easily with a trowel and is very hard-wearing. ARDEX SD-M provides excellent coverage with an outstanding bond. It creates a smooth, permanent, and durable finish for a concrete floor. It is mold and mildew resistant.
ARDEX SD-M can be applied at a minimum thickness of only 20 mils, which minimizes height transfer issues. It can be sealed in just two hours. The coating can be used over concrete, terrazzo, and existing tile, as well as overall ARDEX SD-M under-layments and toppings. ARDEX SD-M is self-drying and Portland cement-based.
